Fix a domain stuck on DNS pending

DNS pending means we have not seen all 3 records yet, or your secure certificate is still being set up. Most changes show within minutes, but DNS can take a few hours. Open DNS Setup to see what is missing.

After you connect a domain, your site in My Sites shows Pending until everything is live.

What the panel tells you

  • Waiting: we have not seen that record yet.
  • Detected: we found the record.
  • "Found 2 of 3 records": make sure you saved all 3.
  • "We found all your records": we are finishing setup on our end. This takes 5 to 15 minutes, and you can close the page.
  • "Your site is live!": www.yourdomain.com works. The address without www may take a few more minutes.

Check your records

  1. 1Open My Sites and press DNS Setup on your site.
  2. 2Look at the check next to each record: A, AAAA and CNAME.
  3. 3For any record still waiting, open your registrar and compare it with the values in the panel. Use the Copy buttons to avoid typos.
  4. 4Save at your registrar and come back. The panel checks again every few seconds.

How long DNS takes

We usually see a change 1 to 5 minutes after you save. DNS can take from minutes to a few hours to spread across the internet.

www.yourdomain.com usually goes live first. yourdomain.com without www can take a few more minutes. Once it is ready, it sends visitors to the www address, which is good for SEO.

Common mistakes

  • A typo in a value. Copy and paste from the panel instead of typing.
  • Typing the full domain in the Name or Host field. Use @ for the root and www for www, unless your registrar's guide in the panel says otherwise.
  • On Porkbun, putting @ in the Host field. Leave it empty for the A and AAAA records.
  • On Wix, trying to add an AAAA record. Wix does not support it, so add the TXT record shown in the panel instead.
  • Saving only 1 or 2 of the records. You need all 3.
