Connect a domain you already own

Already have a domain at GoDaddy, Namecheap or another registrar? Keep it there and point it at your site. Connecting a domain needs a hosting plan.

Connect your domain#

1. 1Publish your site first. Then press "Get a custom domain" on the "Site is live!" screen, or "+ Connect a domain" on your site in My Sites.
2. 2Choose "Use Existing" and type your domain, like example.com.
3. 3Under "Where did you register this domain?", pick your registrar. Then press "Continue with <your domain>".
4. 4No hosting plan yet? You see "Subscription required". Press "Subscribe & connect domain" and pay on the secure Stripe page. Your domain is connected automatically after you subscribe.
5. 5In My Sites, the DNS panel for your site opens. Add the 3 records below at your registrar.
6. 6Come back and wait. A green check appears next to each record as soon as we see it.

The 3 DNS records to add#

Add these in your registrar's DNS settings. The DNS Setup panel on your site in My Sites shows the same values with Copy buttons, plus step by step help for your registrar.

• Record 1: type A, name @, value 137.66.37.208. This sends yourdomain.com to your site.
• Record 2: type AAAA, name @, value 2a09:8280:1::d6:4afa:0. A warning about a conflicting record is normal. Just save it.
• Record 3: type CNAME, name www, value instantwebsite.com. This connects www.yourdomain.com to your site.

See a TTL field? Set it to the lowest option, like 1 minute. If there is no TTL field, ignore it.

Notes for some registrars#

• Wix does not support AAAA records. For Record 2, add a TXT record with Host Name _fly-ownership and value app-9lg01gj instead. With Wix, www.yourdomain.com works, but yourdomain.com without www will not redirect.
• Porkbun: leave the Host field empty for the A and AAAA records. Porkbun uses a blank host for the root domain, not @.
• Field names differ by registrar, for example Name, Host or Host Name, and Value, Data, Content, Points to or Answer. Pick your registrar in the panel to see its exact labels.

How long it takes#

We usually see your records 1 to 5 minutes after you save. Once we find all 3, we finish setting up your secure certificate, which takes 5 to 15 minutes. Sometimes DNS takes a few hours. See Fix a domain stuck on DNS pending.
