The problems that most often draw ADA demand letters
Automated rules catch the structural issues that screen readers and keyboard users hit first.
Images without alt text
Screen readers announce nothing useful for an image with no text alternative.
Unlabelled form fields
Contact and booking forms need labels so every visitor knows what to type.
Unnamed links and buttons
Icon-only links and buttons need an accessible name to be usable at all.
Headings and landmarks
A clear heading order and page regions let people jump straight to what they need.
Page language and title
A missing language or page title confuses screen readers before the page even loads.
ARIA and keyboard focus
Invalid ARIA and broken tab order can trap keyboard users or hide content.
ADA compliance checker questions
Is this ADA compliance checker really free?
Yes. Scan as many pages as you like with no signup and no card. Results show on screen and nothing is stored.
What does the checker test?
It runs the open source axe-core engine against your page's HTML with the WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 A and AA rule sets plus best practices: alt text, form labels, link and button names, headings, page language, ARIA and more.
Can it scan my whole website?
Yes. Choose Full site and it finds your pages from sitemap.xml, or from the links on your home page if there is no sitemap, then scans them four at a time and scores every page.
Does a score of 100 mean my site is ADA compliant?
No automated tool can prove compliance. A clean scan means none of the automated rules failed. Combine it with manual testing: use your site with only a keyboard, try a screen reader and check that your content is easy to follow.
Does it check color contrast?
Not reliably. The scan reads the HTML your server sends without running scripts or loading stylesheets, so visual checks such as color contrast need a browser based test. Structural problems in the HTML are covered.
How is the score calculated?
Every page starts at 100. Each affected element costs points by severity: 10 for critical, 5 for serious, 3 for moderate and 1 for minor. Fixing critical and serious issues first gives the biggest gain.
What should I do with the results?
Copy the report and send it to whoever manages your site, starting with critical issues. If your site is old, rebuilding it with accessibility designed in is often faster than patching it.
